Because she's all black like pepper, and I can't think of any black food that's good for you except pepper!

There are olives and sometimes blackberries are actually so dark they actually look black.

Not olives, then. [Which Velvet will remember in the future.] Did you get other toys that you also named after foods?

I did yes! Since I got them all within a few days of one another, it only seemed fitting to name them all something similar. So I have Rosemary, Lavender, Basil, Pepper, and Coriander!

Clever. I would never have come up with something like that when naming someone.

Oh but you're very clever, Miss Velvet, you would have thought of something, I'm sure of it!

Not when it comes to names. [A small pause.] I named Laphicet after my brother. He was upset with me a couple of times because of it.

Your brother or Laphicet?

Laphicet. My brother, Laphi, died three years ago. When I met Phi he reminded me of my brother so much that I accidentally called him that and it stuck.

I think that's very sweet, Miss Velvet, and I hope Laphicet now thinks so too.

[Enough of that.]

So what else did you do on the holiday?

I went to Sora's Christmas party! And I even ice skated... or well, I tried to ice skate, I did stay up on my own, and managed a twirl once or twice!

I think Phi went to that. [She didn't go.] If you keep at it, you'll be an expert in no time.

Do you know how to skate, Miss Velvet? Does Phi? Maybe we can all go skating together!

It was never cold enough in my village for water to freeze over in the winter so I didn't ever learn how to skate. I doubt Phi was allowed despite growing up in a snowy place.

[But still.]

We could always go anyway. Phi likes to try new things.

Oh... [She sounds disappointed only to have Velvet follow it up and-]

Really! I'm not sure I'm a very good teacher but we can all try to better at it together!

I've got strong legs, quick reflexes and excellent balance, I'm sure it'll be fine.

[She probably won't fall. Much.]

So pick a day and we'll go.
